The San Diego Community Outreach Committee, an internal committee at Allen Matkins, that includes Carolyn DeBoer, Ted Fates, Casey Gauntt, Tim Hutter, Megan Mazza, and Heather Riley, has successfully completed its first office book drive.
The drive kicked off at the beginning of March as members of the committee encouraged all San Diego office employees to bring in new and gently used books to be donated to Operation Paperback, a non-profit organization that provides books to active United States military service members and veterans. Throughout March, many San Diego employees participated in the drive. Donors received one raffle ticket for each book donated, and a raffle was held at an awards breakfast the end of the month-long drive.
Rachel Ingersol donated the most books, and she won the raffle for the grand prize, a new Kindle. Along with Rachel, Stephanie Hutchison, Glenda Trickey, Megan Mazza, Tim Hutter, Lynn Borkenhagen, Casey Gauntt and Monica Menzer were the biggest donors. Steph Hutchison, Catherine Schiaffo and Morgan Matlzman won Amazon gift cards in the raffle.
The San Diego office donated more than 1,100 books, and more books are expected from the firm’s community partner, Consortium Holdings. Consortium Holdings owns the restaurant Craft and Commerce, where a thank you lunch for the biggest donors will be held on May 11, 2012. Consortium employees will deliver their books at the lunch, so the total number of books collected will be even greater.
