Dozens of students at Rosa Parks Elementary School in San Diego now have the opportunity to experience the excitement and awe of the San Diego Museum of Man with Allen Matkins’ sponsorship of memberships, entitling students and their families to one year of unlimited, free admission to the museum.
“We hope the students at Rosa Parks Elementary will experience San Diego Museum of Man with their families, and move further along the path to life-long learning,” said Val Hoy, partner at Allen Matkins and a former board member of the museum.
On December 16, 2010, the museum presented 115 Explorer Memberships to fifth-grade students and three memberships to teachers at Rosa Parks Elementary School in San Diego. Support of the Explorer Membership School program builds upon the work initiated by Price Charities’ School in the Park to promote life-long learners.
“The Allen Matkins donation will have an ongoing, positive impact on children of San Diego and their families, enabling them to experience and be inspired by San Diego Museum of Man’s exhibits and programs,” said Gail Alsobrook, director of development for the museum. “During the presentation one of the teachers unsuccessfully fought back tears. The students asked several questions, including, ‘Does this mean our families can go every day?’ Almost in unison, they expressed their enthusiasm for museum, especially the mummies in the Ancient Egypt exhibition.”
During the presentation representatives from Price Charities – Linda Feldman and Ann Bossler – were also on hand and added their public gratitude to Allen Matkins.
The San Diego Museum of Man is the only anthropology and archaeology museum in San Diego County.
